Home Care and How It Can Help You

We often talk about how our home health and hospice services can help our clients manage their health in the comfort of their own home. However, not everyone needs a skilled nurse. Sometimes they just need extra help around the house or someone to keep them company. Our professional caregivers at Haven Home Care can provide exactly this and much more.

Why Get Home Care?

If you are a caregiver for your loved one, you may want to consider getting a professional caregiving service. Home care provides the best of both worlds for many seniors and their caregivers. It provides support and assistance to your loved one while allowing them to stay in their own home and maintain their sense of independence. Many of our clients wish that they had not waited so long to get the care they need.

We offer caregivers for any amount of time from a couple of hours a week to full 24-hour care. With a home care service, your loved one can  maintain control over their daily routine while also getting the care they need. It can also provide you with a support system as a caregiver of your loved one. Being a family caregiver is a stressful and busy job. We can help reduce your workload and ease your stress by staying with your loved one when you’re not able to. Our trained caregivers offer a wide variety of services to assist you.

Services

Before we talk about what home care includes, it would be helpful to mention what it does not include. Home care does not include skilled nursing or any medical care. If your loved one needs medical care, a home health company (like our own Haven Home Health and Therapy) would be more appropriate. For example, our caregivers could provide reminders to your loved one to take their medication at the appropriate time, but they couldn’t give advice on the medication your loved one is taking.

The exact services provided will vary by company, but generally speaking, home care covers basic household tasks, companionship, and personal care. In our case, we can provide assistance with morning routines and waking up, chores such as taking out the garbage, light housekeeping, laundry, and organizing mail. We can also help with errands by arranging appointments, shopping for groceries, or escorting your loved one on their errands. Our caregivers can plan, prepare, and clean up meals, and provide companionship to your loved one. These are only some of the services that we can provide. If there’s a specific task that you’d like assistance with, give us a call! Our number is linked below this article and we’d be happy to discuss how we can best help you.

Many people don’t think to look for home care until their loved one needs medical assistance. However, home care and professional caregivers can greatly improve your loved one’s quality of life while also reducing the workload of family caregivers.

Why Ownership Matters:

At Haven Home Health and Hospice, we are proud to be the last locally-owned, independent, and clinician-led provider of home-based care in our region. While that may sound like a simple fact, it’s actually a defining difference—one that matters deeply to the quality of care our patients receive every day. In recent years, private equity firms and large corporate healthcare chains have rapidly bought out home health and hospice providers across the country, including right here in our community. What we’ve seen in the aftermath is troubling: rapid turnover of staff, shrinking time spent with patients, and decisions driven more by profit margins than by compassion, dignity, and clinical excellence.

When ownership shifts from caregivers to corporations, priorities shift too.

We believe healthcare should never be treated like a commodity. That’s why we’ve remained committed to local, clinician-led ownership—because we answer to patients, not shareholders. Our leadership is hands-on, involved, and invested in every life we touch. We believe that meaningful care takes time, intention, and heart—and it starts with the people who make the decisions. As owners who are also licensed clinicians, we understand the weight of the responsibility we carry. Our patients are not numbers in a spreadsheet. They are parents, grandparents, neighbors, and friends. And we believe they deserve the kind of care we’d want for our own families. We will continue to stand against the corporatization of healthcare, and we invite you to stand with us. Whether you’re a patient, a referral partner, or a member of the community, your trust makes it possible for us to preserve something rare and essential in today’s healthcare system: personalized, human-centered care. Because in the end, ownership isn’t just about who signs the papers—it’s about who shows up when it matters most.
